Album Info:On 19 August 2015 a southbound Shosholoza Meyl passenger train (successor to the Trans-Karoo), hauled by one of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa's controversial new Vossloh Class Afro 4000 locomotives (no. 4010), derailed at Modderrivier near Kimberley when it passed, at cruising speed, through a temporarily speed restricted section where track maintenance was in progress. Anyone who has not yet realised or is still in denial about the full extent of the degeneration of Saint Mandela's wonderful FSA as a result of 21 years of corruption, nepotism, incompetence, fictitious qualifications, fraud and black racism, consider that nearly all of these pictures were taken seven weeks and a day after the derailment, with ALL the wreckage still lying virtually where it fell. The wrecks were only removed on Friday 13 November. (2015...)

Bridges and Blockhouse
Title:  Bridges and Blockhouse
Description:  In the steam era this double mainline from Kimberley to De Aar was known as the racetrack. Upon electrification in 1998-99, only the track at right was electrified, while the one at left was left in place, but not used and completely isolated from the rest of the trackwork.

Zig-zag looking west
Title:  Zig-zag looking west
Description:  The long-time unused line is now being electrified as well and both tracks are being upgraded to cope with increased ore traffic between Hotazel and Port Elizabeth. At this point a temporary zig-zag switches from the older electrified track at left to an already upgraded section of the long unused track at right, with a 30 km/h speed restriction through the zig-zag.

PRASA Class Afro 4000 no. 4010
Title:  PRASA Class Afro 4000 no. 4010
Description:  The Afro 4000 locomotives are already controversial because they exceed the maximum height limit of the South African loading gauge by nearly seven inches. At least one of them have already sustained damage when its roof came into contact with the 3kV catenary at an underpass near Koup siding in the Karoo. While it's height probably had nothing to do with this derailment, the Afro 4000's short track record will definitely not benefit from this accident.

Water tank, bogie, cab fragments, 4010 and dozers
Title:  Water tank, bogie, cab fragments, 4010 and dozers
Description:  I was told by a security guard, who had me fill in my name and vehicle registration in a register, that "PRASA does not want people to take photographs here".
If anyone of PRASAs management had his/her finger even halfway out, there would have been nothing here to take pictures of within 3 to 5 days after the accident!
