SAR Phelophepa Car 17 (Side A)
Title:  SAR Phelophepa Car 17 (Side A)
Description:  Counting from the power car, this car is seventeenth in the string of eighteen wagons that usually make up the Phelophepa Health Train. This appears to have been a third class passenger coach that was modified to be used as part of the Phelophepa train. .....oo..oo..... Phelophepa (a seSotho word for good, clean health) came into being in January 1994. The train takes much needed health care and education to rural areas within South Africa that don't have access to national health services. It is a Transnet Foundation sponsored project that provides not only health care such as optometry, dentistry and basic medical care, but also facilitates health education talks to the communities. The train operates for 36 weeks a year and assists approximately 40,000 patients annually.
