Cab coaches were designed for use at one end of short commuter trains that require only one motor coach. This modified cab coach has two sets of sliding doors and is part of the Boland Blitz, a daily commuter from Worcester to Cape Town and back. The driver's cab has been converted to a conductor's cabin, the front windows have been blanked off and an inter-coach doorway inserted, and steps with footlights have been fitted below all doors to enable passengers to embark or disembark at rural stops without platforms.SAR Class 5M2A, SAR Type S-22-D, Length over headstocks 60'3 5/8" (18.380m), Height 12'0" (3.660m), Width 9'3" (2.820m). |
