SAR Class X-16 (Side A)         
Class X-16 wagons entered service between 1934 and 1952, some built as is and some converted between 1961 and 1986 from Classes XC-4, XS-4, XT-5 and XW-3, all of which started out as Class X-16 between 1939 and 1950. They are designed to transport water, treacle, oil and other similar products.

Number range 30 016 002 to 30 017 998 (built as X-16), 30 018 013 to 30 018 633 (ex XS-4), 30 018 684 to 30 018 722 (ex XW-3), 30 018 730 to 30 018 749 (ex XC-4) and 30 018 641 (ex XT-5), Length between couplers 12.161m, Length over headstocks 11.277m, Length between bogie pivot centres 7.925m, Height 3.466m (3.276m for the ex XS-4 group), Width 2.134m, Tank diameter 1.632m, Tare (average) 18,180kg, Load 23,000kg (water), 19,320 (diesel) or 21,850kg (oil), Capacity 23,000l (full), 23,000l (water), 23,000l (diesel) or 23,000l (oil).
