SAR Class PZ-4 (Side A)         
Class PZ-4 wagons entered service as Class L-1 (LJ-1) mechanical refrigerators between 1971 and 1972, to transport frozen products. They were converted to transport fish in 1989 by mounting the Class L-1 mechanical refrigerator bodies onto Class GZ-5, FB-1, OZ-8, OZ-9 or OZ-11 underframes that entered service between 1950 and 1978. Mechanical refrigerators are nearly all retired now, having been replaced by reefer containers.
