SAR Class V-9 (Side A)         
Class V-9 (VL-9) wagons entered service between 1976 and 1981 and are goods guard's vans that used to run at the end of goods trains. Side A is the stove side and the cabin layout is, from left, a seat on each side next to a wall periscope, a stove on the A side and a toilet on the B side. The use of guard's vans ceased in the 1980's.

Number range 90 500 660 to 90 501 209 (1976 and 1977) and 90 501 608 to 90 503 899 (1978 to 1981), Length between couplers 10.028m, Length over headstocks 9.144m, Length between bogie pivot centres 6.244m, Height 3.516m, Width 2.450m (over solebars) and 2.970m (over side lamps), Tare (average) 18,310kg.
