Class SM-3 (SMLJ-3, SMJL-3, SM-15, SMLJ-15, SM-17, SMLJ-17, SM-25, SMLJ-25) wagons entered service on the South African Railways between 1986 and 1988. Some were inherited by TransNamib (the Namibian Railways) upon that country's independence in 1990.
