Class NS-1 wagons entered service between 1975 and 1976. Side B has two access doors on the cabin side. They are dual voltage (74v and 110v) steam heating vehicles, used to generate steam for heating in passenger coaches. They always run between the locomotive and the first coach on mainline passenger trains, usually only during the winter months.
